Student visas - BRPs expiring 31 December 2024 and eVisas

UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) are developing a digital immigration system. Physical documents, such as biometric residence permits (BRPs) are being replaced by online records of immigration status known as a digital account and eVisa.

The digital account and eVisa can be used to keep your details up to date and prove immigration status e.g. your right to study, work or rent and for travel to the UK.

Some student visa holders are no longer issued BRPs, this includes EU nationals and non-visa nationals who have extended their visa in the UK using the ‘UK Immigration - ID check’ app and thereby already created a digital account.

Many other students still hold BRPs, but these will no longer be valid after 31 December 2024. If you have visa permission beyond 31 December 2024 you should create a digital account so that this is recorded as an eVisa. Any BRP should be kept for travel purposes until it expires.

To make sure that the University can verify students have the right to study for the 2024/2025 academic year, students are advised to ensure they have their digital account and eVisa in place at the earliest opportunity.

The International Student Experience team will be running sessions to support students with e-Visas throughout October, book your place via targetconnect:
