º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ researchers bringing science to life at Cheltenham Science Festival

Researchers from º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ are bringing the science of healthy eating and exercise to life at this year’s Cheltenham Science Festival.

The prestigious Festival, which runs from 4 – 9 June, brings together some of the UK’s most respected scientists, writers, thinkers and creators to shine a light on the role science plays in our everyday lives.

2024 marks the fourth year of the Festival’s ‘Be the Change’ theme, inviting audiences of all ages to consider their role in shaping the future, and the central place of science in this process.

The event, which is set to attract thousands of visitors, will cover a range of fascinating topics, from the power of science to predict upcoming elections to the question of whether humanity is truly alone in the universe.

Researchers from the University’s School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences will host an interactive exhibit in the Discover Zone, a free-to-access space that invites visitors of all ages to immerse themselves in a world of fun and interactive science.

Eat well, move well, live well

Led by Dr Florence Sheen, researchers will shed light on how healthy eating and exercise contribute to overall wellbeing. Visitors can explore the body's response to physical activity, learn how to identify highly processed foods and discover how to create a balanced diet that still satisfies tastebuds.

The free exhibit is accessible throughout the festival week, with no booking required.

Mythbusting: Should We Rethink Our Diets?

On Sunday, 9 June, Dr Florence Sheen will join an expert panel to share the science behind eating well. The talk will tackle the complexities of eating well in a world of conflicting advice and fad diets, sharing science-backed insights to help navigate the path towards a balanced and nutritious diet.
