Professor Caroline Kennedy-Pipe awarded the 2024 BISA Distinguished Contribution Prize

Professor Caroline Kennedy-Pipe has been awarded the 2024 BISA Distinguished Contribution Prize by the British International Studies Association (BISA).

Caroline, a co-convener of the War Studies Working Group, was awarded the prize during the BISA annual conference. The Distinguished Contribution Prize recognises contribution to the promotion of excellence in the discipline of International Studies over a substantial period of time. As BISA's first female Chair and one of the first women to be a Professor of War Studies in the UK, Professor Kennedy-Pipe embodies the association's commitment to diversity, professional advancement, and engaged scholarship. Her academic leadership, including founding the journal Civil Wars, and mentorship, spanning over 40 years, have positively influenced countless scholars.

Caroline studies and writes on contemporary war and political violence. She is interested in how the Cold War developed after the Second World War and how the United States and the Soviet Union conducted foreign policy under the shadow of nuclear weapons. Currently, Caroline works on Arctic Security, Russia and the High North as well as writing a book urban warfare.

BISA are a leading voice in International Studies in the UK and abroad. They develop and promote International Studies through publications, research, academic networks and funding opportunities.
