During the day, prizes were handed out to students that excelled during their time studying our Geography programmes. These were the Bell Dissertation Prize; the Reid Dissertation Prize; Richard and Margaret Lawton Prize and the School of Social Sciences and Humanities Community Prize.
The winners were as follows:
- Benjamin Kerwin – The Reid Dissertation Prize
- Jozsef Talas – Richard and Margaret Lawton Prize and the Bell Dissertation Prize
- Abi Brown-Stark - School of Social Sciences and Humanities Community Prizes: Geography and Environment: Part C
The Reid Dissertation Prize is presented annually to the final-year student who obtains the highest mark for a physical geography dissertation. The Bell Dissertation Prize is presented annually to the final-year student who obtains the highest mark for a human geography dissertation.
The Richard and Margaret Lawton Prize has a value of £100 and is presented to the best final-year student in Geography (including those taking joint honours programmes). In 1988, Professor and Ms Lawton (Professor Lawton was an External Professor in the Department at the time) generously offered to fund this prize.
The School of Social Sciences and Humanities Community Prize is a prize to the value of £50 to a Part C Geography and Environment student who is judged to have made an exceptional extra-curricular contribution to the discipline, School, University or wider community
