In addition to the second year fieldcourse to North Wales which runs in September, Week 6 of Semester One is an important time for Geography and Environment students ‘out in the field’. All first year students travel to the Peak District for a residential introduction to key methods in both physical and human geography. At second year, students have the option to travel to Paris to explore its unique urban geographies. Final year students have a range of options, including this year’s successful fieldcourses to Singapore and Accra, Ghana, which examine timely debates in human geography. For the first time, Part C students with a passion for physical geography had the option to travel to Namibia to study Dryland Environments. Students conducted first-hand research up linear sand dunes and the hyper-arid desert of central Namibia, encountering incredible landscapes.
Dr. Louise Holt commented “All the fieldcourses have been extremely successful...I have had positive feedback from all the courses. Many thanks to all the teams who led our various fieldcourses, these provide such an important part of our learning and teaching activities and generate such scholarly interest in our students; they are an invaluable part of our Geography programmes”.
