Analytical lab
The Analytical Laboratory is a clean space where careful analysis of water and mineral samples is conducted to ascertain their chemical and physical properties.
The Total Organic Carbon (TOC) with Total Nitrogen (TN) Analyzer measures total carbon, inorganic carbon and total organic carbon as well as purgeable organic carbon and non-purgeable organic carbon. An Ion Chromatograph (IC) is used to separate and measure concentrations of major anions and cations in water samples and a UV-Visible Spectrophotometer is used to quantitatively analyse the concentration of different molecules in solution.
The laboratory also contains a Laser Particle Sizer with appropriate modules for determining the grain size distribution of fine sediments between 0.01 µm to 2100 µm and a BioTek Cytation 1 cell imaging multimode reader that combines fluorescence and high contrast brightfield imaging with conventional multimode detection for cell imaging that combines automated fluorescence and high contrast microscopy with microplate detection.
The laboratories facilities also include fume cupboards and smaller pieces of analytical equipment.
