The range of practical learning opportunities and the career prospects for graduates was a major factor in my decision to study Sport and Exercise Science here.
Opportunities to learn from sector-leading researchers, speak with careers advisors and meet employers at a range of career events on campus, have confirmed that I made the right decision.
I made use of the University’s fantastic graduate-employer connections and extensive careers support, to secure a placement with Fulham Football Club as an academy sport scientist.
The anatomy and physiology modules on my course perfectly prepared me for my placement, giving me a thorough understanding of the mechanical and structural workings of the human body.
During my placement I worked with a range of junior athletes, supported by people working at the top of the industry. Learning directly from those leading the direction and impact of the field was an invaluable and inspiring experience.
The placement was invaluable in providing me with first-hand experience in a professional environment, building my confidence and developing my leadership skills, but also helped me to confirm my desire to pursue a career in football sport science.
Following my placement, I am researching postgraduate study opportunities to further specialise my knowledge and skills for the field.
Now in my final year, I plan to add to my experiences by volunteering as a sport scientist through the Coach and Volunteer Academy to further build the skills that will help me in my future career and ensure that I graduate with the experience to flourish in my new path upon graduation.
