I studied Mathematics and Sports Science at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ and graduated with a first class.
Studying this course at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ enabled me to see the real-life benefits of data analysis. I particularly enjoyed modules in biomechanics where we could use the data to understand the impact of movements better and also predict their outcomes. This inspired me to pursue a career in data as it showed me the true value and importance of data when understood and applied properly.
As part of my degree, I undertook a placement year as a Financial Analyst at Amazon. During my time there I built automated reporting tools for UK FinOps, monitored and managed purchase orders, automated the generation of the profit and loss for Amazon UK and completed monthly, quarterly, and yearly reporting for Retail Finance.
I am now a Data Engineer at Cisco. Within this role I own the data pipeline for the Data, Solutions and Insights team which enables stakeholders to make data driven decisions and automate processes.
My course at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ has helped me in many ways, specifically mathematical modules, such as statistics, have been extremely useful in my career, as I can apply the methods I learnt at university to the work I carry out now, such as analysing data or developing alerts based on data. Additionally, the course taught me how to approach problem statements in a logical manner, which are methods I apply day to day in my job.
