Our courses
Links with industry
We’ve been engaging with organisations and economies since we first began. We’ve had a placement scheme for over 30 years, allowing students to engage with industry and put what they are learning into practice.
Our economics courses can be studied as a three-year degree, or as a four-year degree with a 'placement year' in year three. It’s up to you exactly how you spend your optional placement year – you could work in industry, study abroad, or run your own business. Whichever pathway you choose, you'll build sought-after skills and experience, giving you an extra heads-up in the jobs market.
Whilst it is your responsibility to secure a placement, our dedicated Placements Office in the Business School is here to help and works with hundreds of employers worldwide, with many companies specifically targeting our students for their placement schemes. The Business School has also collaborated with EFMD Global Network to offer students an international search engine for internships, trainee positions, apprenticeships and graduate positions in companies worldwide.
Typically about a third of students are offered a graduate job with their placement employer. Those wishing to study abroad can choose from over 40 partner institutions around the world, developing highly prized intercultural skills that employers are looking for.
There are lots of options on how the year on placement or studying overseas is structured too; you could spend one year on placement (up to three different placements), or six months on placement and six months studying abroad. You can even do a self-employed ‘Year in Enterprise’ where you create and manage your own start-up business.
Accreditation
º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ is a triple-accredited (AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA) UK business school. These international accreditations validate the high quality of education offered on our courses, from teaching and research to student support and facilities.
We also hold the Chartered Association of Business School’s ‘Small Business Charter’ for our work in enterprise.
Career opportunities
Our economics graduates are in high demand for jobs. You could go on to become an economist for government or a think tank. You could become an analyst or go to work in a financial services organisation.
The versatility of our degree courses means you will develop a wide range of skills, opening the door to lots of different career options. Our graduates have progressed into fields as diverse as economic consultancy, banking, accountancy, financial management, insurance and marketing, while others are employed in more general management roles.
Many of our graduates have gone onto work with companies that operate globally such as PwC, EY, Accenture, Deloitte, IBM, JP Morgan, Lidl and Lloyds.
Developing your employability
Our aim is to inspire and develop the leaders of the future, so we make every effort to help you develop your employability both inside and outside of the classroom.
Every course includes a core module that will equip you with key skills in how to study effectively, secure a placement and develop your employability.
In addition, several of our courses include specialist modules to develop your critical thinking, research and communication skills, as well as leadership and professional development. There are also modules in entrepreneurship to help those with aspirations to start or develop their own businesses.
