Links with industry
Our chemistry courses are orientated towards the practice of chemistry in the real world. As such, our graduates have gone on to pursue exciting careers within such diverse organisations as GlaxoSmithKline, BUPA, Pirelli, Nova Nordish, Lubrizol and Fujitsu.
Our BSc courses in chemistry equip you for employment in chemistry, scientific and related technical sectors. Our Masters of Chemistry (MChem) undergraduate courses are excellent preparation for research work in industry or PhD research.
Facilities
We believe hands-on laboratory experimentation is vitally important to the development of your chemical education. Opened in 2017, STEMLab acts as a hub for science students, providing a student-focused learning environment in which to grow your laboratory practical skills.
Your º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Chemistry experience will be enhanced by STEMLab's state-of-the-art chemistry facilities with separate laboratories for synthetic chemistry, physical and analytical measurements, and bioscience experiments. Extensive fume cupboard provision and the latest equipment allow a wide range experiments to be undertaken safely.
In addition to STEMLab, recently refurbished laboratories in the Sir David Davies Building offer an ideal research environment for advanced project work, further enhancing our ability to train the chemists of the future.
Accreditation
Our courses are accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry. The BSc and MChem degrees satisfy the academic requirements for admission to AMRSC of the Royal Society of Chemistry. MChem graduates will hold a chemistry degree that is also accredited for the award of Chartered Chemist (CChem).

Placements
One year on placement
All our courses offer the opportunity to spend a year working in industry, giving you the chance to test-drive a career and gain valuable skills sought after by employers. A placement year, which can be spent at up to three organisations, allows you to gain first-hand experience of a real role with real responsibilities. A year in industry will equip you with key knowledge and practical skills to give you a competitive advantage in your search for graduate employment.
Study abroad
Gain international experience with the study abroad option. Spend one year studying abroad, or at two partner universities for six months each, broadening your insights into a new culture.
Placement and study abroad
Make the most of your year by combining the two options by spending six months on placement in industry and six months studying abroad
