LGBT+ students
The LGBT+ community is thriving here at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, thanks to the safe and supportive environment that has been created on campus.
We have a number of support groups and services for LGBTQ+ students, including an LGBT+ group which provides support, advice and events for students and staff throughout the year.
In addition, º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Students’ Union has an LGBT+ Association, which provides a student-led support network for every student who identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and/or any other identity.
We also have a Transgender and Non-binary Working Group which oversees work to improve our systems, policies and processes in order to better support our transgender and non-binary staff and students. In addition, the Student Advice and Support Service can provide practical support to help students update their name and/or gender held by the Student Loans Company, UKVI, or other external organisations.
Important note: Our campus operates a strict zero tolerance policy on LGBT+ phobic behaviour, and anyone who feels that this is not being respected is strongly advised to report it to Student Services or the Students’ Union.
º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Careers Network offer a range of services and resources to support LGBTQ+ students in their search for graduate employment. For example, in celebration of LGBT+ History Month, the Careers Network work in collaboration with the LGBT+ Association to host an annual alumni panel discussion titled Being LGBT+ in the workplace. Find out more on the Careers Network website.
In addition to these internal support services, you can also find support and advice on the LGBT Foundation website and a full list of recommended support networks on the Stonewall charity website.
