WPL 2.09 Chemistry Synthesis laboratory
Overview
One of our two highly serviced industry-standard chemistry laboratories, teaching inorganic and organic synthetic chemistry. The Synthesis Laboratory consists of 38 fume cupboards where students can safely carry out all of their practical chemistry experiments.
This laboratory allows students to maximise their hands-on experience in all aspects of synthetic chemistry, from the mixing of chemicals to the isolation of their final product, and provides invaluable transferable skills for any career. There is a zone at one end of the laboratory which contains additional benches for other experiments and instrumentation.
Adjacent to the main laboratory is the Instrument Room. This serves as a "clean" area for sensitive instruments that students use for the detailed characterisation and analysis of chemicals produced within the laboratory. This is an integral part of their laboratory experiments.
What we teach
These labs are primarily used for the teaching of courses in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Foundation, and Natural Sciences.
