James Hudson
Performance Nutritionist
After 2 years working in elite sport (rugby and football), then another 2 years working in the supplement industry I now work for myself as a qualified performance nutritionist.
I consult with clubs and work with individuals looking to improve their performance through food.
I use a lot of the information I absorbed at University daily, practising the philosophy I created during the "pedagogy" lectures. To this day I still reference some of the notes I took from the Sports Nutrition lectures during the third year of my degree.

What is Sport and Exercise Science?
Sport and Exercise Science encompasses a huge range of different elements, from teaching and coaching to biomechanics and everything in between. It is great if you are not 100% sure what you want to do because it exposes you to a lot of different studies within the sports and exercise field.
Why did you choose Sport and Exercise Science?
I chose my subject because I knew I wanted to do something in the field of sport and exercise. I wasn’t sure what when I chose it though.
Sports and Exercise Science is initially quite broad and º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ allows you a lot of opportunity to choose your modules as you progress through the course. I became fascinated by Sports Nutrition so chose all the modules related to that.
James’s experience as a student
Sport at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ is, obviously, incredible and I was lucky enough to get through trials to play for the Rugby Union team.
I threw everything into this, captaining the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) 3s for 2 years. Even when playing for the University’s 4th string side we would compete and win against 1st teams from other universities due to the talent of the guys I played along-side.
James' advice
Going to a University is not just about education, it’s about meeting a broader range of people and socialising whilst learning.
You develop as a person at university and learn the interpersonal skills that are needed alongside your academic skills. This is something that isn't so much taught but happens naturally if you get stuck into the extra curricular side (clubs, societies and your hall).
Being confident in yourself will help you get a job just as much as your previous work experience or academic prowess.
