Alex Tailor

Graduate Scheme

The degree provides a fundamental understanding of media in the modern day and overlaps with some areas of marketing, which is where I decided to pursue my career after my first year of university.

Attending º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ meant that I was able to enjoy an array of different experiences outside of my course, in societies and other voluntary roles.

I soon found my passion for marketing.

Through these roles I developed soft and practical skills that I would not have learnt within the remit of my degree. I am convinced that although my course and my career did not overlap in terms of what they have taught me, I would not be where I am today if I didn't study at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ.

The opportunities and experiences I gained were fundamental for putting me in the position I am currently in within the professional world.

Post 16 Education: A Levels Media Studies, English Literature, Business Studies

Higher Education: BSc Media and Communication

Why did you choose Media and Communication?

After studying my first year of A-Levels I was still uncertain which specific career path I wanted to propel myself towards. The real term implications meant I chose a degree that was broad enough in scope to be exposed to different modules, whilst still being within the remit of media studies, which was where my interest was.

Alex's advice

Put in the work.

You live your best years at university and the grades you achieve at sixth form will dictate the doors that open up to you. Having the best results possible means the power of choosing your ideal university is in your hands.

In other words: work hard, execute and keep the ball in your court.

Alex's experience as a student

My experience at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ was unrivalled.

Being late to apply for my accommodation (entirely my fault for oversleeping!) meant the only available option was Butler Court's shared rooms. I selected this with no idea what to expect from my future room mate - the anxiety I felt was immeasurable. Would they steal my food? Be incredibly messy? Play weird pranks on me?

Fast forward 6 years and not only my roommate, but the two strangers that lived in the room opposite us are now three of my best friends and I could not have picked a better option for accommodation.

It's funny to look back at how oversleeping on the day of selecting accommodation became one of the best accidents of my life.

Alex's Career

I have just finished working as a Marketing Executive for Zenzic in the self-driving vehicle industry (technically speaking this is Connected and Automated Mobility - CAM).

This role entailed working with a government funded start-up; the UK aims to become a leading, global player in the world of CAM and this role allowed me to become exposed to all facets of marketing - from branding, events and social media management to PR, content writing and creative design.

I was headhunted for this role via LinkedIn and after two months of conversations, interviewing and assessments, was chosen and left my first out-of-university role at Nuvias Unified Communications - where I also worked as a Marketing Executive. Whilst working for Zenzic I came to the realisation that although I love working at the forefront of technology and innovation, it was ultimately not what I was passionate about.

I now work in the fashion industry for George at Asda as part of the graduate scheme.

º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ offers undergraduate bachelor’s degrees in:
