The Chemical Engineering industry is vital in producing every day essential products such as pharmaceuticals, food and fuels.

As the planet evolves there is growing pressure to adapt, invent and improve processes to make them safer, cleaner and more economical. It is down to Chemical Engineers to be at the forefront of this change.

Studying Chemical Engineering will provide a wide range of knowledge and skills that will allow you to work anywhere within the industry as well as a number of other roles, such as accountancy, project management and other disciplines of engineering.

Why did you choose to study Chemical Engineering?

At the time of leaving school I was unsure of exactly what I wanted to pursue as a career. Chemical Engineering provides a large number of opportunities and fit my skill set in terms of what I studied and enjoyed at A Level.

The subject is about applying Maths, Science and Economics to assist in developing and improving processes that turn raw materials and energy into everyday essential products such as pharmaceuticals, food, and fossil fuels.

Joshua's experience as a student

Nothing can really compare to the time that you study at university.

I made great friends and memories and was able to benefit from world class teaching. Furthermore, I was able to take advantage of a number of opportunities including a research project and a placement year, which really helped when it came to looking for a full time role.

Joshua's Career

I currently work as a project manager for the Ocado Group and am responsible for implementing projects across the world.

As I progressed through my study and completed my placement I realised that a purely Chemical Engineering role was not for me but there were many careers that would make use of the skills.

I currently work with a large number of engineers and I am able to use much of what I learnt at university to perform my role well.

My career path shows the diversity in roles that a Chemical Engineering degree can lead to.
