From the start of studying with us you will explore key areas of business, including human resource management, operations management, marketing, finance, and information systems. In semester two, you will also be able to choose specific modules that match your areas of interest. In the summer, you will then take part in a consultancy project. This key feature of the programme offers our students the opportunity to apply their knowledge to practical problems, develop their analytical skills, and enhance employability prospects.

Throughout the programme there is a focus on current global issues and challenges, such as climate change and sustainability, ethics and inequities, different models of capitalism, and responsible leadership across areas like global supply chains and information management.

Our MSc Management will give you a relevant, practical and constantly updated programme through our close links with many large businesses and commercial organisations, whilst our taught content allows you to see how theory can be applied in practice.

Compulsory modules

The aims of this module are:

  • to introduce students to the range of alternative techniques and strategies for managing people at work;
  • to develop students' expertise in evaluating the different techniques and strategies in varied circumstances.

The aims of this module are:

  • to introduce fundamental concepts and techniques of operations management;
  • to illustrate the application of operations management in organisations in both the manufacturing and service industries.

This module examines the principles of marketing, from theoretical and practical perspectives, which enables students to develop understanding of applied marketing and build a solid foundation for tackling future marketing modules.

The aims of this module are:

  • to enhance students' financial literacy
  • to develop students' abilities to analyse and interpret company financial performance.

The aims of this module are to:

  • encourage students to take ownership of their personal learning and development;
  • improve student's capabilities in the area of literature searching, referencing , academic writing and critical analysis for academic research;
  • develop student's understanding of the needs of organisations in the international business environment including the methods of recruitment used by global organisations and how to develop their own body of evidence of their demonstration of management competencies.

  • to provide an in-depth understanding of international virtual team research and practice;
  • to develop skills of collaborating in international, virtual teams;
  • to develop expertise in critically analysing international business problems.

The aims of this module are:

  • to present a range of issues affecting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs);
  • to develop both written and oral communication skills;
  • to encourage enthusiasm and self-motivation.

The aims of this module are:

  • to introduce and develop the key principles of enterprise resource planning (ERP);
  • to introduce the fundamental concepts of supply chain management (SCM) in the context of ERP;
  • to provide an understanding of the role of ERP systems in the effective management of organisational processes;
  • to provide hands-on experience of SAP, an industry standard ERP software.

The aims of this module are:

  • to understand the role of global logistics and supply chain management within various business contexts;
  • to identify and analyse the complexities and uncertainties affecting global supply chains;
  • to have a critical appreciation of the emerging trends and concepts in logistics and supply chain management;
  • to develop relevant transferable skills.

This module builds on students' understanding of marketing and develops a critical appreciation of the role of marketing communications (as both a concept and process) in the success of marketing strategies.

The aims of this module are:

  • to develop students understanding of theories of entrepreneurship in the context of global migration and displacement;
  • to create an understanding of opportunities and challenges encountered by migrant and refugee entrepreneurs;
  • to cultivate students ability to identify, research and propose initiatives that address challenges encountered by migrant and refugee entrepreneurs;
  • to enable students to engage empathically with local contexts, promoting a better understanding of other places.

The aims of this module are:

  • to provide an understanding of the key concepts and core issues in global and international marketing, and understand the difference between the two constructs;
  • to widen the students’ knowledge of marketing from the principles learned in semester one.

Compulsory modules

This module is an opportunity to tackle a real organisational problem in a specific discipline, as prescribed by a 'client' company, working in a group. The aims are:

  • to apply discipline-specific knowledge, covered in the postgraduate programme, in addition to knowledge gained from previous studies (if relevant) to a real-world problem/situation;
  • to undertake business consultancy across the entire lifecycle of a project from inception to delivery;
  • to develop consulting skills, including those related to academic research, such as effective communication with the company, choosing appropriate theories/frameworks and effectively collecting and using data as needed;
  • to effectively work in a group;
  • to deliver a range of agreed outputs to a deadline.

Each module is assessed through either exams, coursework or a combination of the two. For the modules assessed by exams and coursework, the typical weight for exams is 50% or 75%.

Irrespective of discipline, all students need to master a wide range of interpersonal, digital and analytical skills, which can be further supported with evidence gained through studying additional micro-credentials. At 含羞草视频 Business School, we have designed a comprehensive suite of additional learning opportunities to ensure our graduates are ready to navigate a complex and uncertain job market.
 
These additional opportunities are constructed around three key pillars. The first is interpersonal skills; we offer guidance on personal branding, career planning and networking, as well as interview and assessment centre preparation. The second pillar addresses critical digital competencies such as data and AI skills, from non-coding essentials through to understanding data science.
