Peter Smith Part A Merit Prize

A prize to the value of £100 to be awarded to the first-year student with the best overall performance across all Part A undergraduate programmes in view of the programme board. 

The prize is in memory of Professor Peter Smith, who was Head of Department from 2001 until his untimely death in February 2006.  Peter Smith came to º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ in 1989 as a lecturer and was appointed Professor of Photonics Engineering in 1998.  A leading researcher in the applications of photonics in healthcare Peter was active in areas such as drug delivery systems, clinical risk assessment, biomedical monitoring and diagnosis, on-line process monitoring and control, particle counting, sizing and shaping.  He was co-founder of the DaVinci network which brings together innovative engineering and clinical professionals to create ground-breaking improvements in patient care.  Peter’s work led to a number of commercial ventures and two spin out companies in plethysmography and pulse oximetry.

School Part B Design Project Prize

A prize to the value of £200 is awarded to the best second-year group project across all Part B programmes in view of the programme board.

J N Butters Memorial Prize

A prize to the value of £100 to be awarded to the student with the best overall performance across all Part B undergraduate programmes in view of the programme board.

MEng Part C Merit Prize

A prize to the value of £100 to be awarded to the MEng Part C student with the highest Part C mark across all programmes. The prize winner will be chosen by the appropriate programme board.

MEng Part C Project Prize

A prize to the value of £100 to be awarded to the MEng Part C student with the highest individual project mark across all programmes in view of the programme board.

 

Finalist Prizes

Adidas Sports Technology Merit Prize

A prize to the value of £500, to be awarded to the best Part C student on the Sports Technology degree programme in view of the programme board.

Adidas Sports Technology Project Prize

A prize to the value of £500, to be awarded to the student who is judged to have submitted the best Final Year project on the Sports Technology degree programme.

Andrew Simpson Project Prize

A prize to be awarded annually to the value of £200 for the Part C student in the School whose project contributes most to the improvement of sports through engineering in the view of the Wolfson School’s prize awarding board. Andrew Simpson was a Product Design and Manufacture Engineering student who graduated in 2007. This prize was established in his memory by the Andrew Simpson Sports Enabling Trust.

BEng Final Year Merit Prize

A prize to the value of £100 for the BEng student with the highest degree mark across all programmes. The prize winner will be chosen by the appropriate programme/review board.

BEng Final year Project Prize

A prize to the value of £100 for the BEng student with the highest project mark across all programmes.  The prize winner will be chosen by the appropriate programme/review board.

Frederic Barnes Waldron Prize (IMechE)

A prize consisting of a certificate and a medal to be awarded to the best final-year student on an IMechE accredited degree in the view of the relevant programme board.

To be eligible for consideration, students will also need to be IMechE Affiliate members. The prize will be awarded to a student from the Department of Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering in even years and to a student from the Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering in odd years.

IET Manufacturing Engineering Student Prize

A prize of a certificate and two years’ free membership of the Institution of Engineering and Technology is awarded to the most outstanding student on Part D of an IET accredited manufacturing engineering programme. 

IMechE Product Design Engineering Best Project Certificate

A prize to the value of £100 and a certificate is awarded to the Part C student(s) on the IMechE accredited Product Design Engineering degree programme who completes the best individual project (s) as judged by the examination board.

IMechE Project Prize

A prize of a medal and a certificate is awarded to the Part C student on a IMechE accredited Mechanical Engineering degree programme who completes the best individual project in the view of the programme board.

James France Engineering Placement Prize

A prize to the value of £100 is awarded to the student on any Wolfson School undergraduate programme with the best performance in Professional Training. 

MEng Final year Merit Prize

A prize to the value of £100 for MEng student graduating with the highest degree mark across all programmes.  The prize winner will be chosen by the appropriate programme board.

MEng Final Year Project Prize

A prize to the value of £100 for the MEng student graduating with the highest project mark across all Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering programmes. The prize winner will be chosen by the appropriate Programme Board.

Manufacturing Technology Centre Ltd.  Innovation in Manufacturing Engineering Project Prize

A prize to the value of £1000, kindly donated by the MTC, is awarded to the final year student across all the manufacturing engineering degree programmes with the best individual project.

Manufacturing Technology Centre Ltd.  Innovation Manufacturing Engineering Final Year Merit Prize

A prize to the value of £1000, kindly donated by the MTC, is awarded to the final year student with the best academic performance across all the manufacturing engineering degree programmes.

School Merit/IMechE Best Student Award

A prize to the value of £100 and a certificate is awarded to the Part D student on the Mechanical Engineering programme with the highest overall mark.

 

Postgraduate Prizes

School Project Prize

A prize to the value of £200 to be awarded to the graduating student from the school's MSc programmes who completes the best individual project in the view of the programme board.

School Merit Prize

A prize to the value of £200 is awarded to the best MSc student graduating from any programme in the Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering.

Professor Tony Marmont Award for Best REST MSc Student

A prize to the value of £500 to be awarded annually to the student (either full time or distance learning) with the highest average % overall mark for the REST MSc programme.

Professor Leon Freris Award for Best REST MSc Project

A prize to the value of £250 to be awarded annually to the student (either full time or distance learning) on the REST MSc programme with the highest average % mark for the MSc project.
