Information for guests

We understand that for many guests, it may be your first time at a Graduation or indeed at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ. Here is some information specific to you.

Guest Tickets

All graduands are guaranteed two guest tickets.  Depending on the size of the ceremony, it may be possible to book more tickets from the outset.  After booking has closed, graduands will be advised of the availability of additional guest tickets and the process for requesting them. Any additional tickets will be released on a first-come-first-served basis.

A web-cast will also be available online for friends and family who are unable to travel to the campus.

There is no charge for guest tickets. Guest seating is unallocated.

Children

Children of all ages are welcome in the ceremony but require their own guest ticket.

Guests with Disabilities or Special Requirements

We will endeavour to accommodate the needs of all graduands and guests. Graduands should let us know as soon as possible of any individual requirements they or their guests may have. The Sir David Wallace Sports Hall (º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ) is fully accessible to wheelchair users. Additional accessibility information for the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ campus - e.g. the locations of building entrances, accessable toilets, lifts/stairs and parking can also be found on the AccessAble app or website.

Graduation Programmes

Graduation programmes are provided free of charge (one for each graduand and a further one for their guests to share).  If a graduand has not given their consent for their data to be used for this purpose (part of the booking process) or their award has not been confirmed by the published deadline, their details will not appear in the programme.  It is not possible to reprint amended copies of the programme at a later date.

Ceremony Timings

We ask that all guests and graduands are seated at least 10 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony. Ceremonies last in the region of 60-75 minutes, but may be slightly longer or shorter depending on the size of the School and whether an honorary award is being made. Please leave plenty of time for to get to the venue as there will be a lot of people on campus.

Visas

The University is unable to provide invitation letters for guests. However, graduands may request written confirmation that they are due to attend the ceremony from the Graduation Office which can be used to support their guests' visa applications. UK-based graduands may also wish to provide their own invitation letters for guests’ visa applications.

Travel and Accommodation

The University is able to offer accommodation in hotels and a hall of residence for graduands and guests. There are also a number of hotels in the town centre which are a short distance from the campus.

The satnav postcode for the West Entrance is LE11 3GR - see the Find Us page for more travel information.

Exceptional circumstances resulting in the relocation, postponement or cancellation graduation ceremonies

If º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ’s graduation ceremonies need to be postponed or relocated or cannot take place as planned due to circumstances beyond the University’s control, the Graduation Office will notify all graduands at the earliest possible time and publish notice of the position online.

We regret that º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ cannot be held responsible for any loss or additional expense incurred by graduands or guests arising from the postponement, cancellation or relocation of its graduation ceremonies due to circumstances beyond the University’s control.  Such circumstances may include, but are not limited to, fire, flood, natural disaster, explosion, terrorist act (or threat of a terrorist act), epidemic or pandemic, period of national mourning, industrial action, or dispute involving the University or graduation venue. Graduands and guests should ensure that they have adequate insurance protection to cover any losses which could be incurred in such circumstances including, but not limited to, travel and accommodation costs.
