Mountaineering

Mountaineering at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ is for anyone who enjoys climbing, walking, mountain biking, skiing, alpine climbing, ice climbing, and bouldering. It is safe to say that we have something on offer for everyone, no matter what level you are.

Athletic Union Club

As a club we take part in a wide range of mountaineering activities. These include both indoor and outdoor activities. The main sport the club focuses on is bouldering, club members climb at the Climbing Station in º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ weekly where there is a range of set climbs, all at different levels, making the centre accessible to any level of climber. As well as this, members try to go outdoor bouldering when possible. Club trips are run throughout the year to help introduce new members and provide the experience to outdoor climbing and outdoor pursuit activities. On these trips we aim to find opportunities for both indoor and outdoor bouldering, trad climbing, top rope climbing and hiking.

The club competes in the annual BUCs competition where 5 males and 5 females from the club are selected to compete. In addition to this, we also compete at more regional competitions as well as the casual competitions put on by the Climbing Station. For these competitions teams are not selected and any member of the club can take part.

Training frequency

There are two structured training sessions each week, that all member can attend, these focus on strength and conditioning and core and flexibility. We also meet on Wednesdays at the climbing station where there is opportunity for a limited number of club members to have sessions lead by a qualified climbing instructor, these sessions focus on different aspects on climbing helping to improve climbing technique.
