Women's Performance Basketball

The Women's Performance Basketball Programme continues to thrive due to the partnership between Leicester Riders, º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ College and Charnwood College.

The Women’s First team compete in the WBBL (Women's British Basketball League), a semi-professional league and the highest level of basketball in the country, alongside BUCS. The league features many colligate graduates from the US as well as many international players.

The programme continues to strive to pursue excellence on and off the court and challenge the status quo of basketball in the UK, with many Alumni now current professional players and many more working in professional sport. º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ teams have competed regularly around the globe in recent years.

The Women’s Basketball programme includes two further teams competing in BUCS and a team competing in NBL Division One.  

Women’s Basketball have taken three of the last six BUCS Championships titles (2017, 2015, 2013) whilst building their stature in club competition to rise from National League Division Two through to the WBBL to then reach the WBBL Trophy Final in 2017 and in the 2018 season are making a push for their first league title.

Marg Jones

WBBL & BUCS 1 Head Coach

In the 2017-18 season, Marg was Head Coach of the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Riders National League D1 Team, Assistant Coach of the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ BUCS 1s and the Assistant Coach of the WBBL Leicester Riders.  Marg has also been the Assistant Coach to the GB U20 Women's team.  In the summer of 2019 Marg helped guide them to a 4th place finish in the European Championships.  Marg returns to the Riders for a second spell as the Head Coach for BUCS 1s Women and Leicester Riders WBBL teams.

Nick Moodey

Division 1 Women's Head Coach & BUCS 2 Head Coach

Nick started coaching for Leicester Riders when he became the Head Coach of the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ BUCS Women's 3rd team in September 2018.  Alongside his role with the BUCS team Nick started coaching with the Leicester Riders Foundation in February 2019 helping out with community sessions and then coaching the JNBL U14 II for a season.  In September 2021 Nick was appointed the Women's 2s BUCS Head Coach and the Division 1 Women's Head Coach.  Nick also assists Marg with the Leicester Riders WBBL team.

Notable alumni

º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ’s Women’s Basketball has features players that have gone onto professional contracts, World University Games and the Commonwealth Games. The most notable recent graduate being Georgia Jones, competing with the GB National team as well as continuing professional basketball with Leicester Riders and then Manchester Mystics.
