Athletic Union Club

By winning 60 of the last 65 men's and women's BUCS Outdoor Athletics Championships, º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ is proud to be known as the best University Athletics club in the country.                                       

As a member of º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Students Athletics Club, you will have access to world class indoor and outdoor training facilities, and be coached by a range of professional and volunteer coaches who coach across all events.

Membership includes entry to compete in the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Indoor & Outdoor Opens, Midland XC League, and Indoor Inter Varsity Meet, as well as eligibility to be selected for the prestigious º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ BUCS team, where we are reigning overall Indoor, Outdoor and Women's XC Champions. 

The club is a friendly and sociable place to train, and caters for all levels from recreational runners to Olympic and Paralympic superstars!

Meet The Team

We have seven employed members of staff who run and support our Athletics Programme on a full and part time basis, led by Director of Athletics, Femi Akinsanya. 

The athletics staff team work alongside the student club committee to ensure athletes have full access to training, coaching and competition opportunities. 

Athletics Performance Programme

As expected, elite athletes are able to thrive in º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ's unparalleled sporting environment. 

º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Students have always had great success, and in recent years, past and present students have been part of teams that have competed in age group, European and global Championships.

The athletics performance programme supports approximately 100 of our highest achieving club members each year with a host of sport science and therapy services.

Para Athletics at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ

º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Athletics has always been committed to supporting Para sport, with notable former alumni including Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, Paralympic Champion Dan Greaves, World and Paralympic Champion Jonathan Broom-Edwards and European medallists Sam Ruddock, Lydia Church and Zak Skinner.

Sitting alongside º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ's Para Sport offer, the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Athletics Programme offers Scholarship opportunities for the highest level of Para Athlete; the ability to compete and strongly contribute towards the BUCS Indoor and Outdoor Championships; and the chance to work with a specialist team of coaches and practitioners who are committed to supporting Para athletes achieve their goals. º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ also provides competition opportunities in the form of Open Meets, LIA and LEAP which will regularly provide WPA-endorsed track or field events.

Current Para athletes within the club include two time Paralympic Champion and world record holder, Ntando Mahlangu, Paralympic Champion Thomas Young, and European silver medallist and 5-time BUCS Champion Lydia Church.

How to join

At the start of every academic year, there is a 'meet the coaches' event held for athletes to talk to a range of coaches at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ.
