Looking to keep up their winnning streak after their last two strong performances, Lightning faced South East Stars for the first game of the Charlotte Edwards Cup this season. After winning the toss, Lightning opted to bat first.
With an unfortunate start, Stars quicky saw two Lightning players off. Luckily this didn't fluster Beth Harmer who had a strong 34 runs in the first innings before Stars' Moore got her out. Abbey Freeborn also had a great batting section, with 30 runs, including consecutive fours. However, unfortunately for Lightning, the opposition proved to be strong bowlers as the rest of the team were only able to get a few runs each before hit with wickets and dismissed. Team Captain, Bryony Smith was a great contribution to the Stars team, with a strong four wickets leaving stars sitting comfortably by the end of the first innings.
In the second half, Lightning took to bowling. With Kathyrn Bryce bowling, Michaela Kirk took a catch off Bryce, dismissing Smith for 30. Alice Capsey was next out for Stars as Sonia Odedra took the catch off Sophie Muroe for 21. With two more wickets from Lightning, it wasn't enough to take the win this time.
Hoping for a win in T20, Lightning face Southern Vipers away at Arundel Castle Cricket Ground on the 3rd July. Tickets are available online.
