The first half started brightly with the students earning 2 corners within the first 2 minutes, the first saw returning midfielder Braithwaite getting his head to a corner at the front post but the effort was deflected wide. The home side continued to dominate possession for the next 20 minutes but despite this they couldn’t find a breakthrough in the final third.
The frustration of not opening the scoring was soon ended when a powerful run by Ferrinho on the right concluded with a cross into the front post which the visiting keeper managed to palm into his net for an unfortunate own goal in the 21st minute.
Possession continued to be dominated by the home side but again chances were not taken until on the stroke of half time. Another Ferrinho run down the right saw Connor Smith set up for a shot on goal but his effort from around 12 yards out was blocked, the block only fell to Cashmore to tap in from 5 yards out.

The Scholars would have wanted to put the game to bed early in the second half, but it was the visitors who started on the front foot scoring shortly after the restart. A poor clearance from Turner saw the ball fall to Barber 25 yards out who rifled home past the outstretched Stallan. The goal provided Peterborough Northern Star a much needed lift, the scholars were on the back foot for the next 5 minutes but a well organised defence keep the visitors from creating any major threats.
After seeing out some of the early second half pressure Jordan Connor was able find space around 25 yards out for his own spectacular effort on goal, with the ball seeming as though it would curl nicely into the net, the visiting keeper pulled out a fantastic tip save onto the post. In the 59th the scholars had another chance to extend the lead when substitute Dinsmore cut the ball back in the area to Collins but he managed to drag his effort just wide.
With 22 minutes to go and one goal separating the score line, Peterborough Northern star were unlucky not to go level when a cross into the back post saw the unmarked player head over, much to the frustration of the visiting bench.
The missed opportunity for the visitors was punished when sub George Wilson who returned from a 5 week period out injured received the ball in his own half and dribbled through the visitors side to slot home into the bottom corner in the 83rd minute. The remaining minutes of the game saw the students manage possession well and secure the 3 points. The result sees the Scholars up to 4th place in the UCL Premier Division, one point behind 2nd and 3rd with a game in hand.
