Dr Rose Deakin
The Crop Club offers sustainable starter packs to help people grow their own food at home and connect with their local community.
Rose first came to º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ in 2002 to study Industrial Design and Technology, graduating in 2006. Rose Deakin graduated from º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ in 2014 with a PhD investigating how to support the integration of sustainable material selection in mass-manufactured products.
The Crop Club has grown from its original inception at Lufbra Service Design Jam 2013 where the idea to create a service to connect communities through growing won first prize. Since then the idea has won a number of awards, Think Big Social Enterprise Award, Marketest market research award and Try It/Do I award from HEFCE and Unltd.
Dr Rose Deakin is putting the knowledge gained during her PhD into practice within the company, not just in selecting sustainable materials and products but in the overall sustainable business practices applied.
