Working with a Transcriber
A transcriber will support you by transcribing your parts of your work towards the end of your assessment. An invigilator will also be present in the assessment venue along with the Transcriber.
What can I expect?
The Transcriber will:
- Arrive at the exam assessment venue 30 minutes before the latest finish time of your exam.
- Wait outside the exam room until you or the invigilator invite them to enter.
- Read through your exam script and ask you to clarify any parts which are illegible or unclear.
- Rewrite the parts in a different colour ink, either above or below your written work. Please leave enough space in your exam booklet, for example by only writing on every other line or on just one side of each page.
The Transcriber will not:
- Advise the student on which questions to answer.
- Tell the student in which order to answer the questions.
For online long window assessments, a Transcriber can join you on MS Teams for a fixed period within your window. Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity (SWAI) will email you prior to the assessment period to advise further on the time slots available for you.
What to do next?
Please visit the Student Self Service Portal to check your assessment support is what you are expecting. If they are not as you are expecting, you can find different ways to contact us on our accessing support page.
Respond promptly to the email you will receive from SWAI prior to the assessment period asking you to confirm your transcribing requirements.
