Graduate Roles
As you begin your final year, if you want to move into the workplace once you graduate, it is important to start thinking about your next steps.
When and where to look for opportunities
Getting started
Some of the larger companies start their recruitment process in September and October for students to start the following summer, so it is worthwhile having a plan of how to find, apply and secure a role at the start of your final year, whether for work in the UK or abroad.
There are many organisations, however, who recruit and advertise throughout the year so do keep an eye out for new roles becoming available. A number of job websites allow you to set up a regular notification to be sent to your inbox, so take advantage of that to keep you up to date.
Attending the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Autumn Careers Fair can be a great starting place to network and find opportunities and, if you don’t find what you are looking for, there is also a Spring Careers Fair, giving you access to employers throughout your academic year.
Your Careers Network team also run regular events and webinars that will help you prepare for your future career as part of our Finalist Futures programme. You can also book an appointment for Careers Advice or Careers Coaching for individual support and guidance.
Where to search for opportunities
There are many ways that you can look for a range of different work opportunities, whether via job websites, directly on company websites, or speculatively through your networks or on social media. See our section about Where to look for opportunities for a host of ideas to get you started.
Support for budding entrepreneurs
If you'd rather explore opportunities to set up your own business or work for youself, our º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Enterprise Network is here to help and support you with your business idea. Visit the Embrace Entrepreneurship section of this website to find out how.
