Mandatory Training
º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ is committed to the training and development of all staff. Mandatory training is an important part of both the induction of new staff and updating the skills of existing staff.
For new staff, mandatory training is an opportunity to welcome our new members; help them settle into their roles; and ensure they have the skills, knowledge and support they need to perform their role. It is an essential part of the Induction process, ensuring staff are able to work effectively, safely and to their best ability. It is therefore extremely important that staff complete the induction process and their mandatory training.
Mandatory Training Policy
The Mandatory Training Policy was approved at Human Resources Committee in October 2021. It defines ‘Mandatory Training’ as any training that is required to:
- Meet a legal or statutory requirement.
- Meet a clear job role requirement.
- Meet a strategic or cultural development need.
Mandatory training is categorised into courses that apply to all staff and then role-specific additional training, where a role determines the training to be a requirement for the job.
Please click on the button below to download the policy.
All mandatory training is accessible through the Mandatory Training Portal on LEARN.
Responsibilities
The Mandatory Training Policy outlines the following responsibilities:
- All members of staff have a responsibility to complete the mandatory training requirements, in the timeframe outlined through their probation and induction period.
- Line Managers have a responsibility to explain the mandatory training requirements to new starters.
- Line Managers have a responsibility to ensure completion of mandatory training by their staff, including as part of the PDR process
- Failure to undertake, or satisfactorily complete training without mitigating circumstances, may lead to the University taking action which could include termination of employment.
