LU Arts
LU Arts is the University’s arts programme, delivering activity that supports the creative life of the campus and creating opportunities for staff and students to engage with the arts.
Each year we organise a varied programme of events including evening classes, creative taster sessions, talks and performances. We also run Radar, a contemporary art programme which commissions artists to engage with research taking place at the University.
For students
We want to make the student experience at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ a creative one. We give students from any subject area and at any ability level the chance to get involved in the Arts during their time here. From creative evening classes, music tuition and one-off workshops to our weekly Happy Mondays events in the union and our annual arts scholarship packages, there is something for everyone.
In addition to the activities we organise, we offer funding to students to put on their own arts events through our student arts grants fund and we support halls and societies in their arts-related activities.
For staff
There are lots of opportunities for you to engage with the Arts in your own time. You can sign up to creative evening classes in pottery, painting and drawing and creative writing or join the University Choir or the lunchtime Book Club.
You can book music tuition in singing, piano, guitar, violin, viola, cello, brass, flute, clarinet and saxophone, whether you are a complete beginner or an accomplished musician. Staff are also eligible to join our free Music VIP club, which includes free access to the music practice rooms.
Throughout the year there are talks, exhibitions, concerts and performances which you can come along to including Speech Bubble (student-organised performance poetry night), Acoustic Night (open mic music night) and the annual º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Arts Festival.
Finally, staff can book the Martin Hall Exhibition Space to showcase the achievements of staff and students in your department; you could present your pioneering research project, celebrate a collaboration with colleagues or display highlights from your School’s degree show. For more information on submitting an exhibition proposal email luarts@lboro.ac.uk.
Radar
Radar is the University’s unique contemporary art programme. We invite artists to work alongside and respond to research being undertaken by academics across our two campuses. It delivers a variety of artistic outputs including performances, publications, exhibitions and installations alongside critical debate. Radar’s involvement in a project can strengthen funding bids and support impact and public engagement.
If you are an academic researcher and you would be interested in working with an artist(s) on a project that engages with your research, then we would love to hear from you. Email Laura Purseglove, Radar producer.
