Research skills
The Library offers training and support in developing academic research skills which will help you to succeed in your studies, be valued by future employers and support lifelong learning.
Getting started
If you are new to the University you might find it useful to visit our Library Induction module on Learn, which will introduce you to the Library's services and facilities, and help you find out how the Library can help you with your studies
Developing your research skills
The Academic Research Kit (ARK) is an interactive tutorial available on Learn which helps you to develop your skills in discovering, evaluating, managing, and referencing information. It can be used as a mini course that covers the breadth of research skills, or as something you dip into at the point of need. You can use ARK independently to improve your research skills and the quality of your assignments.
Digital research tools
The Library subscribes to many specialist databases and online search tools for you to use in your studies. Visit our subject guides which offer a starting point for finding information in a specific subject area. They provide quick access to key resources for finding journal articles, books and other information. Looking for a specific resource? The 'All Databases" page lists all the databases and online resources to which the Library subscribes as well as selected free academic online collections and websites.
Support for staff and researchers
A wide array of support and resources aimed at researchers across all stages of the research lifecycle are available in our research support web pages.
