Technology Enhanced Learning

º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ uses a wide variety of technology systems to support and enhance Teaching and Learning. The Technology Enhanced Learning team (TEL) provide a wide range of training workshops and online resources for these systems to support academic staff and students. Training workshops are advertised on iTrent and self-help resources are available on the TEL Guides site.

Learn

The University’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), known as LEARN, is the system that provides students with access to learning resources, interactive content, assessment points and assessment feedback, and communication routes for their programme modules. Academic (and related staff) are the main creators of this content.

Learn provides a timeline of all assessments for each student on the ‘My modules’ page as well as links to key information to guide them in their academic journey (e.g., exam information, reading lists etc).

MS Teams for Teaching

Microsoft Teams or “Teams” as it is known is a communication and collaboration platform that combines chat, video meetings, file storage and collaboration. It is frequently used for the delivery of online seminars and provides an ideal platform for student groupwork.

The Technology Enhanced Learning team provides support and guidance on the use of teams within the teaching and learning environment.

ReVIEW

ReVIEW is the automated lecture capture system which is installed in all teaching rooms across campus. There is also a software-only version available which can be used to make recordings on any work or personal computer. ReVIEW is based on the widely used Panopto system.

Vevox

Vevox is the centrally supported voting system which is used to create and run real-time polls, surveys, and live Q&As. It is frequently used in the lecture environment to stimulate discussion and create engagement.

Students access Vevox via their smartphones, tablets or laptops, and staff via a web dashboard and PowerPoint. Vevox licenses, covering up to 1500 students per class, are available to all educational staff.

Learning on Demand

Learning on Demand (formally called Box of Broadcasts) provides staff and students access to a vast archive of online recordings of terrestrial TV and radio programmes.

Programmes that you can play, or request to be recorded, are copyright cleared and can be linked to directly from LEARN.

Gradescope

Gradescope is an assessment submission and feedback tool which is primarily used to digitally mark paper-based student submissions (e.g., exams and coursework). It has several activity types that support a range of different assessments. It benefits from having an adaptable and flexible rubric marking system and is accessed via Learn.
