Excellence Reward Range Increment
A consolidated reward that enables staff to move into and through the excellence range
Eligibility
All staff in grades 1 - 8 who are at the top of the grade, or staff who are already within the excellence reward range.
Timeframe
This can happen once a year and nominations should be received by May 31.
What do you get?
Awarded once a year, where an individual is already at the top of the normal scale points for their grade or in the excellence reward range, for the grade. This would allow the individual to progress into or to a higher excellence point. This is consolidated which means it becomes part of salary. This award is applied on a pro-rate basis and paid through the university's payroll. It is subject to tax and NICs.
Criteria
Recommendations should demonstrate that the individual is contributing at a level beyond that normally expected of a fully developed person within that grade, or (if the individual is already in the exceptional range) beyond the level for which they have previously been recognised.
This may be where an individual over the course of a year demonstrates that they are:
- Providing a sustained outstanding service
- Demonstrating positive impact and wider contribution to the University, which is significantly above the normal expectations for the role.
- Where this is output based, the employee should also have consistently demonstrated desirable behaviours aligned to the university's values.
- Carrying out significant additional responsibilities on an ongoing basis which are not assessed to be above the individual's current grade.
Who nominates?
Nominations can come from the line manager.
Authorisation
Recommendations are considered and authorised by the School or Service Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
Nominations made by 31 May will usually be paid in August.
Any recommendation which differs from the norms set out above or where the panel cannot reach a consensus will be referred to the Director of HR.
Exceptions
If a nominated staff member receives a pay increment through an internal role move whilst the award is being considered, then they are no longer eligible for a consolidated award. If the award is approved, then it will be converted and paid as a one-off bonus to the staff member in August.
Communication
Successful colleagues will receive a letter from the appropriate Dean or Director.
