Loneliness can affect anyone from any background at any time of their life, and many individuals have been touched by loneliness in new ways as a result of the global pandemic. This interactive workshop will discuss what is meant by loneliness, identify some of the triggers and how it can affect individuals and those around them.  We will also explore the resources and support available to support ourselves or others if feelings of loneliness are experienced.

Intended Learning Outcomes:

  • Gain understanding of the different types of loneliness and the difference between loneliness and social isolation
  • Develop an understanding into how loneliness affects individuals and those around them
  • Insight into the stigma of loneliness

Knowledge of the different methods and resources available for supporting isolation and loneliness

Presenter biography:

Before joining º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ as a Trainer, Nadine Skinner worked as a Learning & Development Manager for a large regional law firm. Nadine is the University’s Mental Health First Aid Instructor, delivering MHFA England accredited courses throughout the institution for staff on Mental Health in Higher Education, Mental Health Awareness and the full Mental Health First Aid qualification. Nadine is currently seconded into the role of EDI Project Manager, supporting implementation of the University’s 2021 Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity strategic priorities, working with School EDI Champions and the Director of People and Organisational Development. Nadine is a Chartered member of the CIPD, an ILM qualified coach and NLP practitioner.
