If a student chooses to open up to you about what is affecting them there are some policies and processes in place to support students and you in these situations. The resources provided via the Student Service's 'Guidance for staff webpages' will hopefully help you to feel confident in dealing with some of the types of disclosures you might receive.

Pinch Points & Good Practice Solutions Supporting Mental Health & Wellbeing of Doctoral Researchers

Co-developed by Dr Katryna Kalawsky of the Doctoral College on behalf of the UK Council of Graduate Education, this link provides a timeline of the doctoral researcher's journey, the pinch points encountered during that journey and proposed good practice initiatives to support candidates through them.

Staff training and development

The Organisational Development team,  run a series of wellbeing-themed courses throughout the year which are free for staff to sign up to. Examples include:

  • Mental Health First Aid training
  • Identifying and managing stress for managers and leaders
  • Managing mental health in the workplace for managers and leaders
