Applied pathways
Add experience to the teaching on your degree to help you stand out in the graduate job market.
As a student in the School of Sport, Science and Health Sciences, you will have the opportunity to develop practical experience alongside your studies to enhance your future job prospects.
The Coach and Volunteer Academy (CVA) provides students, staff and local community members with valuable sport-based coaching, volunteering and leadership opportunities to enhance their experience and personal development.
The CVA offers a range of opportunities for both students and community members to get involved in a number of different strands, all designed to develop and enhance both employability and softer skills needed for a successful career in the sports industry and beyond.
Opportunities include:
Strength and Conditioning
Students of all levels will be given the opportunity to shadow and be mentored by º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Sports’ senior strength and conditioning staff with the potential to coach and support º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Student Athletes.
Students will grow their knowledge of different Strength and Conditioning (S&C) testing procedures, programmes and training. You will develop practical skills of planning, implementing and reviewing S&C sessions for individuals and teams.
The end goal of the programme is to enable students to develop the skillset and experience to provide elite level strength and conditioning services.
Sport Management
Students are able to choose one of two Sport Management strands: ‘Sport Events’ or ‘Media, Marketing and Communications (MMC)’.
The Sport Events strand provides opportunities ranging from sports event volunteering through to sports events management, within º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Sport or at one of many national and international events hosted on campus.
By choosing the MMC strand you will gain real life experience in a range of media, marketing and communications opportunities, from creating content to running large marketing campaigns.
Students on either pathway will be supported by mentors from relevant professions and will be given priority access to workshops and masterclasses to enhance their ability to apply knowledge.

Sport and Exercise Psychology
Students will engage and receive training in core skills relating to the role of the SEP. These include profiling and assessment, psychological performance analysis and observation.
They will work closely with a team of practitioners that include Postgraduate and BPS Stage 2 candidates and support them in SEP work with these skills.

SSCaPE LIVE
As a Sport Science, Coaching and Physical Education (SSCaPE) student at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, you will be given the opportunity to develop your professional network and practical experience alongside your degree.
SSCaPE LIVE is designed to enhance your education and student experience; offer opportunities for applied practice; engage with PE teachers, coaches and performance analysts; and develop community links and impact opportunities.
Activities are student-led and staff-facilitated, allowing students to shape the direction of SSCaPE LIVE. To date, this opportunity has allowed our students to plan and deliver a series of physical activity sessions for pupils from local schools and receive in-house continuing professional development (CPD) relating to inclusive physical activities.
