Kathryn completed a master's degree in Biomedical Sciences in 2015 and a PhD in Biochemistry in 2019, both at the University of Warwick. Her PhD focused on understanding the complex role of penicillin binding proteins in methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
Following completion of her PhD, she worked for two years at a small drug discovery company in Cheshire called INFEX Therapeutics, whose focus was the development of new antimicrobials to treat infection. She was lead biologist for the in-house hit to lead SARS CoV-2 project and was involved in multiple antibacterial drug development projects, from hit to lead, lead optimisation and clinical phase I ready projects.
Kathryn joined SSEHS as a Technical Tutor in Biological Sciences in October 2021 and now teaches on the following modules:
- PSA601 Laboratory Skills I
- PSA712 Biochemistry and Cell Biology
- PSB611 Laboratory Skills II
- PSC204 Infectious Diseases in Humans
- PSC623 and PSC062 Basic Science and Regenerative Therapy
- PSP332 Basic Science and Regenerative Therapy
- PSP633 Laboratory Techniques in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition
