Participants required for new study

Colleagues from º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ are recruiting participants for a new study, exploring how cognitive factors influence eating behaviours in persons with a spinal cord injury (SCI) compared to able-bodied people.

Jordan Fenton, Dr James King, Dr Sven Hoekstra and Professor Vicky Tolfrey are currently recruiting participants for a new study that will explore how cognitive factors influence eating behaviours in persons with a spinal cord injury (SCI) compared to able-bodied people.

Participants will need to meet the following criteria to partake:

Inclusion criteria:

  • Male or female
  • 18-64 years of age
  • Metabolically healthy – No known cardiovascular or metabolic disease such as diabetes, respiratory or heart disease
  • Non-smoker
  • Weight stable in the past three months
  • Open to both persons with a spinal cord injury (SCI) and able-bodied people
  • Exclusion criteria:
    • Lactose intolerance
    • Gluten allergy
    • Individuals with vegan diets (cheese, milk and honey are included in study foods)
    • Other food allergies interfering with consumption of foods involved in the study

Participants will be asked to attend two sessions where the following measures will be taken:

  • Body composition (the percentage of muscle and fat mass in your body)
  • Resting metabolic rate (the number of calories your body burns per day)
  • Dietary behaviours (via questionnaires)
  • Food intake (using study foods and a food diary)

The results will support each participant’s diet / nutrition, future scientific publications, and contribute to Jordan’s PhD thesis.
