Jordan Fenton, Dr James King, Dr Sven Hoekstra and Professor Vicky Tolfrey are currently recruiting participants for a new study that will explore how cognitive factors influence eating behaviours in persons with a spinal cord injury (SCI) compared to able-bodied people.
Participants will need to meet the following criteria to partake:
Inclusion criteria:
- Male or female
- 18-64 years of age
- Metabolically healthy – No known cardiovascular or metabolic disease such as diabetes, respiratory or heart disease
- Non-smoker
- Weight stable in the past three months
- Open to both persons with a spinal cord injury (SCI) and able-bodied people
- Exclusion criteria:
- Lactose intolerance
- Gluten allergy
- Individuals with vegan diets (cheese, milk and honey are included in study foods)
- Other food allergies interfering with consumption of foods involved in the study
Participants will be asked to attend two sessions where the following measures will be taken:
- Body composition (the percentage of muscle and fat mass in your body)
- Resting metabolic rate (the number of calories your body burns per day)
- Dietary behaviours (via questionnaires)
- Food intake (using study foods and a food diary)
The results will support each participant’s diet / nutrition, future scientific publications, and contribute to Jordan’s PhD thesis.
