Professor Chris Harwood - Inaugural Lecture: A Healthier Future for Youth Sport?
A healthier future for youth sport? How psychology challenges us to raise our game
Tracing his career and body of research as a scientist-practitioner, Professor Chris Harwood of the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences, will present a case for improving the application of psychological principles in organised youth sport. He will illustrate the need to enhance links between research and practice in order to mobilise greater impact on policy.
Finally, in an era of concerns over ‘duty of care’ and ‘mental health’ he will challenge sporting organisations, coaches, psychologists and parents to collaborate more strategically to enable young people to nurture and maintain a lifelong passion for sport as a fundamental human right.
