The Discourse & Rhetoric Group (DARG) were winners in the ‘International Reputation’ category, and the Centre for Sustainable Transitions: Energy, Environment and Resilience (STEER) won the award for ‘Impactful Research and Innovation’.
The International Reputation award is presented for outstanding international engagement that has enhanced the University’s global profile. The Impactful Research and Innovation is awarded for research and innovation that has delivered significant and sustained impact on society and the environment.
Established in 1987, DARG has a long and evolving tradition of research. All members study language in its everyday settings, with some focusing on its use in text and media and many on its use in interaction, researching both its foundations and its applications to real-world problems. The group brings together academics and researchers from across the university, most notably from the departments of Communication and Media, and Criminology, Sociology and Social Policy.
STEER is a multi-million-pound research centre that is committed to accelerating the transition to inclusive, sustainable and resilient energy systems through innovative research, analysis and capacity building. STEER brings together two major Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) funded projects – Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) and Climate Compatible Growth (CCG) – as well as innovative projects on inclusive and integrated energy planning and the creation of more resilient energy systems.
