Dr Luana Olivieri recognised in the 2023 Photonics 100 List

Award winners from Photonics100 2023

Dr Luana Olivieri, research associate at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, has been recognised as one of the 100 most extraordinary people leading the way in the innovation, development and adoption of photonics technologies.

Launched by Europa Science - publisher of Electro Optics, The Photonics100 is a celebration of the brightest minds and innovators in the world of photonics. It's a testament to the incredible work they’ve accomplished and continue to do so by pushing the boundaries of optics and photonics.

Nominated by the wider photonics community, the list is compiled by the editorial team at Europa Science. The list is made up of four categories - Photonics Vendors, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) using photonics, Start-ups, and Academia/Research.

One of the driving forces behind compiling the list is to highlight unsung heroes as well as notable individuals within the photonics industry. Some of the honourees that Dr Luana Olivieri shares this title with include: Dr Ursula Keller, Head of Research, ETH Zurich - the recipient of the 2022 Swiss Nobel Prize, and Dr Bernard Kress, Director for XR engineering at Google Labs.

Mark Elliott, the Head of Content at Europa Science, expressed his delight at the launch of the inaugural edition of The Photonics100, emphasising, "A fresh perspective on this innovative industry has provoked an extremely positive response from those working in it. Rather than focus on the business leaders, our aim is to recognise those individuals at the forefront of R&D; those pushing the boundaries in photonics and, of course, what it can do for the wider world. This dynamic development is exhilarating and we will continue to create different ways of sharing stories about the important work and ground-breaking technology led by nominees represented in this year’s list."

The School of Science congratulates Dr Luana Olivieri on this achievement.
