Background

Claire is a researcher at the Made Smarter Innovation: Centre for People-Led Digitalisation.   Her current role focuses on how digital manufacturing tools can be made more user-friendly facilitating a move ‘operating the equipment’ to ‘equipping the operator’. Her research career has seen her employed on several European and UK research projects, both academic and industrial.  Her previous role was industry-based, working with a team of developers and researchers to create a digital twin to facilitate the building of a Virtual Reality training application.

In former positions she has considered the use of reference ontologies to provide a common underlying information infrastructure for digital manufacturing; utilised data mining to discover the barriers that unemployed young people face; created an intelligent decision support system to aid those helping young people into employment; and developed a prototype automated Batch Hazop identification system.  

Her Ph.D. considered a method for creating equipment models for a computerized HAZOP application for continuous plants.
