Performance and Rehearsal Spaces
Our students have access to several state-of-the-art performance, study, and rehearsal facilities.
These purpose-built spaces are specifically designed to provide for the needs of our students, and provide a comfortable environment for both practical and theoretical learning.
Our state-of-the-art performance and rehearsal spaces include a proscenium arch theatre (seating 280) and well-equipped modern black-box facilities (including with a sprung floor). Students can also book these facilities for rehearsing or group work when they are not being used for formal teaching.
Sir Robert Martin Theatre
The Sir Robert Martin Theatre is our fabulous proscenium arch theatre, which has comfortable seating for up to 280 people.
It boasts not only an impressive appearance, but is served by a state-of-the-art control room with technical equipment for sound and lighting. The control room features an ECT Congo junior lighting board, with a Yamaha LS 9 sound mixer, mic lines alongside a digital snake. Playback is via CD or mini disc.
Stanley Evernden Studio
The Stanley Evernden Studio is a modern black-box space with a sprung floor and comfortable seating for up to 38 people.
It is most commonly booked by students as a comfortable place to rehearse their assessed performances, but is also used for teaching if appropriate. The space is equipped with a control booth that allows students to develop their technical skills in lighting and sound, and also boasts a projector, screen and lighting rigs.
Leonard Dixon Studio
The Leonard Dixon Studio is a well equipped and flexible black-box theatre, which has retractable seating for up to 68 people.
It acts as a first-rate performance and lecture venue and offers overhead balconies that provide an unusual performance setting, and an overhead rigging for intricate lighting. The black-box design provides an excellent blank canvas for student performances, giving students the opportunity to advance both their acting skills, and their technical ability in lighting and sound.
