Jeff was recognised for his commitment and contribution to personal consumer finance with a Distinguished Alumni Award in 2012.
Jeff started his career as an Articled Clerk with Price Waterhouse Chartered Accountants. He then joined Debenham Tewson Chinnocks as a Research Assistant and, following a brief period of self-employment, joined World Investor as Deputy Editor, and Bristol & West Building Society as an Economist.
Moving into journalism full-time, Jeff served as Deputy Editor for Money Management (1987-90) and Personal Finance Editor at The Sunday Telegraph (1990-94). He has been Personal Finance Editor at The Mail on Sunday since 1994 and a Columnist at Financial Adviser since 2004.
Jeff has published two books:
- Jeff’s Lunchbox (1992) – “a humorous insight into the pressures of dealing with financial personnel”
- Complete Personal Finance Guide (2001) – “a one-step guide to all aspects of family and personal finances".
He has won numerous awards for his journalism, in particular his campaign journalism, including the Wincott Awards' Personal Financial Journalist of the Year 2010, Consumer Journalist of the Year 2011, Protection Review’s Outstanding Contribution to Protection Journalism 2010, and Financial Consumer Champion of the Year 2010.
Jeff is a keen runner and has completed many marathons, raising over £250,000 for his favourite charity, Brathay Trust.
