100 years of women engineers at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ
One hundred years ago, four female engineering students joined an otherwise entirely male cohort to study automobile engineering at the then º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Technical College. Since then, º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ has gone from strength to strength, welcoming and celebrating women in engineering. Ayao Komatsu - Team Principal of Haas F1 Team
Alumnus Ayao Komatsu became the new Team Principal of Haas Formula One Team for this season. Now firmly into his first season in the role, F1 fans will have been watching closely as he takes Haas into a new era and goes from Director of Engineering to Team Principal.
A long-standing member of the Haas team, Ayao is a Formula One engineer who has held a number of positions within the sport. Progressing from roles in Vehicle Dynamics and Chassis Performance to Performance Engineer, Test Engineer, Race Engineer and to Chief Race Engineer has provided Ayao with the breadth of experience he needs in his new role at the top.
A two-time º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ graduate with a BEng in Automotive Engineering and a PhD in Aeronautical & Automotive Engineering, we asked Ayao to tell us more about his career progression, share some top tips, and give us some insights into life on the circuits.

The School of Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical and Materials Engineering are sponsoring The JCB Academy for it’s Women into Engineering event for another year in support of Women in STEM.
The annual ‘Women into Engineering’ event is a UK initiative to raise the profile of women in engineering and explore the career opportunities available to women in this exciting industry.
Last year was the events' 10th anniversary and saw over 200 pupils from 35 primary schools across Staffordshire and Derbyshire join The JCB Academy to participate in the activities with female representatives from partners JCB, Toyota UK, Rolls-Royce, º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, Bentley Motors, Harper Adams University, Williams F1 Racing and more.
