These field notes present the findings of focused research into the actual processes of change in low-income countries carried out as a part of the DFID Knowledge and Research Programme This project aims to build capacities of government and non-governmental organizations in the primary collection of solid waste. The field notes are written for organizations and individuals who, in one way or another, support the de- velopment of solid waste systems in low-income countries.
