Summary of project activities and outcomes:
This project aims to establish Shit Flow Diagrams (SFDs) as a widely recognized advocacy and decision support tool to analyse excreta flows in a city, with the potential to shift the focus of attention, money and activities towards effective and inclusive urban sanitation. The project has developed and promoted standardized tools for excreta flow analysis, based on faecal waste flow diagrams (or Shit Flow Diagrams, SFDs) and the service delivery assessment developed by the World Bank.
The SFD Promotion Initiative consists of six partner institutions, with the main objective the development and rollout of SFDs, so that cities can develop their own SFD reports with support from the Initiative. The results are being disseminated via the SFD web portal, hosted by the Sustainable Sanitation Alliance (SuSanA) platform.
