Summary of project activities and outcomes:
Commissioned by Plan International, the purpose of the research is to improve the knowledge, understanding and practice of Plan staff and key government and CSO partners on social inclusion, with a particular focus on gender and disability, in Plan’s Total Sanitation and Hygiene Project in Mulanje District, Malawi.
The research takes a 3-stage approach:
- Desk review of relevant literature
- Capacity building and collaborative research planning with Plan staff and partners
- Action research by Plan staff and partners, supported by WEDC, to explore the suitability of tools and approaches to improve social inclusion in the Mulanje programme
