The PHC Celebrates Research from former PhD Student Ben Stone

Former PhD student, Ben Stone has successfully published all six of his PhD studies from his time at the Peter Harrison Centre for Disability Sport.

As part of our three part monthly update in October, we introduce two new PhD students and look to celebrate the work of former PhD student Ben Stone. From all at the Peter Harrison Centre we wish Ben all the best for the future in his new role.

"I completed my Ph.D. at the Peter Harrison Centre just over a year ago. In that time, I have been busy balancing my new day job with submitting research from my Ph.D. for publication. In the last month, I successfully published the 6th research paper to come out of my Ph.D.- Optimising Performance in Recumbent Handcycling. I am incredibly proud of this achievement and it emphasises the world-leading impactful research that we complete at the Peter Harrison Centre.

Over the past year, I have been able to reflect on my time at the PHC and I know that the research I produced wouldn’t have been possible without the excellent facilities and people at the PHC. My supervisor Barry and Vicky directed me along the path. Still, I also must highlight the support from my other colleagues, particularly Sven Hoekstra, Michael Hutchinson, Ben Stephenson and Simon Briley, who kept me on track and used their expertise to support my research.

I thoroughly enjoyed working at the PHC, but it was time for me to challenge myself in a different industry. I left academia and have begun working with wearable technology (NURVV Run), which has been an exciting challenge. I left the PHC in very safe hands and I wish all my colleagues the best of luck and health in the future."
