New PhD Student Joins the Centre

Intelligent Automation are delighted to announce the arrival of a new PhD student within the Centre

This week the Centre has welcomed Connor Gill, whose PhD research will focus on ‘Creating Digital Twins using AI for Automation and Robotics'.

Connor graduated from º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ with a BEng in Manufacturing Engineering in July 2021, where he completed two summer internships: one which looked at a novel robotic hand-eye calibration technique for use with laser profile scanners, and another using a large-scale motion capture system to do the kinematic calibration of one of the industrial robots in the 3DCP lab.

His PhD will focus on using AI to quantify robot errors and create a generic framework to represent them, with the ultimate aim of creating a standard procedure to 'test' a robot. With this data, he is hoping to be able to create a bespoke digital twin and use it for testing, programming and verification of assets.

Staff and students from Intelligent Automation would like to welcome Connor onboard and wish him well with this PhD studies.
