Professor Cheryl Potgieter

Prof Cheryl Potgieter has a doctorate in psychology and currently heads Gender Justice, Health, and Human Development and the Research and Doctoral Leadership Academy (RADLA) at Durban University of Technology (DUT). She has held notable leadership roles, including Deputy Vice Chancellor and Head of College of Humanities at UKZN and Dean of Research at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN).
She was also a Professor in psychology at the University of Pretoria. She was the founding Director of Gender and Development of the at the Human Sciences Research Council South Africa. She started her career in psychology at the University of the Western Cape and also held the position of Head of the Women and Gender studies Dept at the University of the Western Cape.
Prof Potgieter has served as a commissioner on the KwaZulu-Natal Commission on Social Cohesion and the Moerane Commission investigating Political Killings in KwaZulu-Natal. Her extensive experience includes serving on various committees related to higher education and government, as well as consulting for both the private and public sectors. She recently completed her role as the Africa lead for the global project Gender Responsive Resilience and Intersectionality in Policy and Practice (GRRIPP).
Additionally, she has been a visiting professor (non-residential) at University College London and currently serves on an advisory board of º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ.
