André Reyes Novaes is Associate Professor at the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He received his PhD from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and was an academic visitor at Royal Holloway, University of London (2009), and at the University of Nottingham (2012). In 2020, he was appointed an Honorary Research Associate in the Department of Geography at Royal Holloway, University of London.
He is currently a member of the Commission on the History of Geography at the International Geographical Union (IGU) and Co-editor of the book series Geographers: Biobibliographical Studies. In addition, he is on the editorial board of the journal Espaço e Cultura, a pioneering publication on cultural approaches in human geography in Brazil. His research interests include the history of South American borders, popular geopolitics, visual methods, and the history of cartography.
During their IAS Fellowship, Professor Novaes is collaborating with Professor Heike Jöns from the Department of Geography and Environment.
